The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) delegation led by Lt. Gen. Nadeem Ahmad (right) visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in Lahore. Meanwhile, a meeting was held on climate change here at City Campus on Tuesday.
Lt. Gen. Nadeem Ahmad (R) and Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) Director Dr. Farhan Jamil co-chaired the meeting and solicited technical suggestions/inputs from members of the UVAS faculty to collaborate to address global climate change issues when few faculty members from the Department of Environmental Science and (ADPC) officials were present.
Speaking on the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, Nadeem Ahmad urged UVAS faculty members to apply for Global Climate Fund accreditation. He is ready to collaborate with UVAS to address the challenges of climate adaptation.
Dr Farhan Jamil said UVAS works with livestock, poultry, dairy and food industries in Pakistan. He said UVAS is a research-intensive university and its faculty members are currently carrying out 110 research projects that have been won by national and international funding agencies. He said UVAS also focuses on food safety and security and conducts different training programs to impart practical training and knowledge to dairy industry professionals for capacity building.
Earlier, Associate Professor Dr. Naveed ul Haq gave a detailed presentation of UVAS work on climate change. In which he spoke about challenges related to poor nutritional strategies, heat stress season, housing and management practices, electricity demand in urban areas, livestock water supply and livestock health management and reproduction in Pakistan. He highlighted UVAS’ climate change goals and UVAS’ state-of-the-art facility to conduct livestock experiments. He also mentioned the policy brief on Livestock for Profitability of Poor Farming Communities and the National and International Collaboration Project on Climate Change, etc.
