DOST highlights innovations in disaster preparedness at Handa Pilipinas Expo – Manila Bulletin

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched on Wednesday, November 9, the first day of the Handa Pilipinas: Innovations in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Expo 2022 to showcase the latest innovative technologies and products and the research project and development (R&D) of disaster risk reduction and response technologies.

According to DOST, this will be done through interactive exhibits and hands-on breakout sessions.

“As the impact of these natural calamities such as casualties and property loss becomes more significant, timely and appropriate disaster management and mitigation must be the top priority of government agencies, local government units and vulnerable communities,” DOST said.

The three-day event will showcase the latest innovative technologies and products and disaster risk reduction and response technologies related to research and development (R&D) projects through interactive exhibits and hands-on breakout sessions.

DOST and its partner organizations aim to use this event as a place to educate various stakeholders on technologies that can be used to improve the capabilities of local disaster risk reduction and management offices in disaster risk reduction and preparedness. and response to hazards.

Some of the DOST technologies featured are Tsunami Warning System and Disaster Early Warning, Automated Weather Station, GeoSafer, Detection of Damaged Buildings and Mapping of OLD informs NEW or COIN for innovations in the group of early warning systems.

The Handa Pilipinas exhibition was originally scheduled for March 12-14, 2020 also at the World Trade Center. However, due to the continued increase in COVID-19 cases at this time and the beginning of the implementation of various health restrictions and protocols, DOST has decided to postpone the event until now.
