Exercises in Erode and Salem to mark Natural Disaster Reduction Day


An exercise to demonstrate natural disaster evacuation and rescue methods and firefighting techniques was conducted on the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction here on Wednesday.

Collector H. Krishnanunni inspected the exercise carried out by personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Department. The exercise was carried out to rescue people during the northeast monsoon, storm, rain, flooding and earthquake. In addition, the measures to be taken to control the fire were also demonstrated by the staff.

In the event of a gas leak, residents must immediately open windows and doors, turn off all electrical appliances and notify fire and rescue services, officials said. A rescue exercise for people during flooding was also carried out on this occasion. Officials also explained the importance of coordination between different departments during natural disasters to carry out our relief and rehabilitation measures.

At the Salem Collectorate, Collector S. Karmegam inspected drills, including firefighters demonstrating methods to fight fires created due to short circuits. Additionally, staff demonstrated how to use various safety and rescue tools during disasters. Precautionary measures people should take before the monsoon has also been explained on occasion.
