Handbook designed to help with disaster preparedness – FBC News

The government equips community leaders and members with the knowledge and skills to prepare for a disaster.

A community-based and climate-friendly disaster risk management training manual was launched yesterday, and Disaster Management Minister Inia Seruiratu said it would strengthen disaster management.

Seruiratu says the manual outlines the roles and responsibilities of each community member during a natural disaster.

“A standard curriculum and methodology used by practitioners in community training will lead to acceptable and quality standard disaster preparedness at the community level.”

Seruiratu says the manual will enable communities to formulate their own disaster response plans.

The manual also provides guidance to community members on how to conduct accurate initial damage assessments that will potentially enable the rapid delivery of targeted, needs-based assistance to authorities after a disaster.
