With the region already experiencing a number of severe weather events as part of this year’s storm season, there has never been a better time to get to know the Bundaberg Regional Council’s Disaster Dashboard.
The dashboard is an essential source of information in an emergency and gathers all the relevant opinions and advice.
Mayor Jack Dempsey, who is also chairman of the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG), said with many residents enjoying a well-deserved Christmas break, now is a good time to familiarize themselves with the tools available on the site.
“There is so much vital information available on the City Council’s Disaster Dashboard that I really implore residents to take the time to go through it to understand what information is available when needed,” the mayor said. Dempsey.
“From road conditions and closures to power outages and river heights, it is designed as a one-stop-shop for disasters.
“Other representatives within the LDMG also provide information for the Disaster Dashboard, including Sunwater and Telstra. “
The Disaster Dashboard provides links to emergency news and contacts as well as a live feed of weather warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology.
Mayor Dempsey said it was also where residents can find advice on how to prepare for storm season and other disasters.
“If you spend a little more time in the house over the Christmas holidays, this is also a great time to check your yard for potential hazards and reduce the risk of damage in extreme weather conditions.
“Unsecured objects can become missiles during a storm and increase the likelihood of damage to your property. “
