State Rep. Bennie Cook will join the Missouri House Joint Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Awareness for the 2022 legislative session.
Cook, R-Houston, was nominated to serve on the committee by Chairman Rob Vescovo, who cited Cook’s 18 years of experience as a law enforcement officer and his tenure as director of emergency management for Texas County and the City of Houston, as well as a member of the Texas County 911 Board of Directors.
The joint committee is responsible for reviewing and evaluating state and local government disaster preparedness, response to the initial impact of disasters, and recovery efforts in affected areas. The commission will also consider legislative and administrative changes to support current recovery efforts and improve future disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
“It’s an honor that the president chose me for this committee,” Cook said. “I look forward to working with the committee and seeing how we can learn from past disasters and work together to ensure that certain future disasters are handled as effectively and efficiently as possible. The people of Missouri deserve to know. that the government makes their safety the highest priority.”
