Village of New Lenox: Free Disaster Preparedness Training

NEW LENOX, IL – The Village of New Lenox will host a 20-hour Basic Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course beginning September 1. The class is free and will be held Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. through October 13 from the New Lenox Village Hall, 1 Veterans Parkway.

The final exercise, graduation and luncheon will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 15. All graduates will receive a CERT backpack containing various disaster preparedness supplies, a CERT Participant Handbook, and a Certificate of Completion.

The CERT program educates people on disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their community and trains them in basic disaster response skills. Using training learned in the classroom and during drills, CERT members can help during disasters when first responders are not immediately available to help.
